Kathleen started her career in the Placement Office at Columbia Law School and went on to serve as Assistant Dean of Career Services at Fordham University School of Law, National Director of Staff Recruitment and Development at Jackson Lewis, and Manager of Associate Professional Development at Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy, LLP. She is also a past president of the National Association for Law Placement, a founding member of the NALP Foundation for Research and Education, a Certified Professional Coach, a Master Practitioner of the Energy Leadership Index, a certified provider of the Highlands Ability Battery and a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and the International Coach Federation. How Kathleen Learned about the Highlands Ability Battery
Kathleen became a trained Highlands Consultant nearly nine years ago after a surprise phone call from Lazar Emanuel, then CEO of The Highlands Company.
“He read an article I had recently published about generalists/specialists and wanted to talk to me about it, but I didn’t know who he was,” Kathleen explained. “After we hung up the phone I researched The Highlands Company and realized who he was and what a big deal he was, I understood what a great fit a relationship with Highlands could be!”
And, sure enough, the relationship has proven to be a great fit.
“The Highlands Ability Battery is one the best tools out there, and I’ve seen a lot of tools. Some tests are just interest inventories, but the HAB lets the test taker and the career coach dig much deeper.”
“For a coach it’s a fabulous tool, because it enriches how you deliver your services. You’re not just working off of what someone tells you. As a therapist or coach you have objective information to work with.”
Highlands Continues to Evolve as a Coaching Practice Evolves
Nine years ago Kathleen’s experience as a career counselor rested mostly with adults. After becoming a Highlands Consultant, she put the Adult and Leadership Reports to great use in her practice, but when the Lawyer Report came out she saw even more benefits to the Highlands Ability Battery because of her work with law schools and law firms.
Currently, she works in higher ed, and, as you might guess, she’s now had the opportunity to see how the new Student Report could benefit students, giving her a full view of all Highland Reports over the years.
“It’s my hope that we can make Highlands part of all curriculum. If every college freshman had the HAB as part of their foundation and we created a common language among all of us, just imagine the positive impact that would ultimately have on the workforce.”
