In the year 2000, Highlands succeeded in translating the worksamples contained in the Paper & Pencil Battery into a three-hour interactive CD. The CD enables the individual to complete the Highlands assessment on his or her own computer, whether at home or in the office. The assessment may be completed in one sitting or at intervals. The CD Battery has been completed by more than 6,000 individuals and now represents 90% of all assessments conducted by Highlands.
The CD contains nineteen worksamples, each one assessing a different innate ability. The key to the CD Battery is its objectivity. It is neither a self-reporting device nor an external assessment by other individuals, nor a measure of skills or knowledge. Instead, it is an objective measure of the individual's relative ability to perform defined hands-on tasks.
At completion of the CD Battery, the individual's computer generates a 30-page report which analyzes his or her scores on each worksample and converts the scores to percentiles. The report begins with a summary bar chart which shows the individual's percentiles at a glance. The rest of the report describes each worksample, the meaning of each result and the significance of each result to the individual.
A copy of the report is transmitted to a Highlands Affiliate, who uses the report in assessing the individual's abilities profile and in preparing for the feedback consultation.
A typical individual profile and bar chart is reproduced on this page. The chart shows all the work samples which make up the Highlands CD Battery and the score achieved by a sample individual in each of the worksamples. Construed together, the scores form the individual's Ability Profile.
