What We Do

The Highlands Company owns and publishes the gold standard among abilities assessment tools — the Highlands Ability Battery. The Battery is offered in three versions. An on-line version was introduced on June 1, 2004. A second version is contained in an interactive CD. A Paper & Pencil version is administered under the supervision of a Highlands Affiliate who has been trained in the scoring of the Battery. In all cases, the results are transmitted to the Highlands tech center and are incorporated in the Highlands Report.

All three versions result in a thirty-page report which measures and defines the individual's performance on the nineteen objective worksamples comprising the Ability Battery. The individual receives a score on each worksample. The score is then translated into a percentile which represents the individual’s rank among all persons who have completed the Battery. The resulting report is transmitted to the individual and is made available to a Highlands Affiliate trained to conduct an individual feedback with the individual.

The feedback consists of a one-on-one telephone conference between the individual and the Affiliate. The feedback lasts approximately two hours, during which the Affiliate discusses and explains the significance of the individual's results and their impact on the individual's life and work patterns.

An alternative to the individual feedback is a group feedback among individuals with a common background or common work-related interests. Group feedbacks are most effective when limited to about fifteen participants. The Company conducts group feedbacks and other corporate programs among individuals who work together in a common environment. Among the corporations which have utilized the Company's programs are Cisco Systems, GlaxoSmithKline, IBM, JPMorganChase, Charles Schwab & Co., and BellSouth.

The Company's work with corporate clients has lead to a new Train-the-Trainer program for qualified corporate personnel. Under this program, the Highlands Company trains qualified personnel in client companies to administer the CD Battery and to conduct group feedback and group programs. These programs are designed to improve group teamwork; to utilize the aggregate talents of a team of workers; and to encourage better communication among workers and between workers and management. Corporate training programs have been conducted among trainees employed by Charles Schwab & Co. and by JPMorganChase.
